Rebel 100 Straight Rye Whiskey is the newest member of the Rebel family, and as you probably guessed, it has some serious backbone. Which means, if you want to make a cocktail with it, you better bring it.
Let’s discuss some cocktails worthy of a pour using Rebel 100 Straight Rye Whiskey.
All About Rebel Rye
Before we get to the fun part (AKA the drinks), let’s go over what makes Rebel 100 Straight Rye Whiskey so special — and what sets it apart. First off, rye is different from bourbon thanks to the ratio of grains used. For bourbon, you must use at least 51% corn. For rye, it must contain at least 51% rye.
But, Rebel 100 Straight Rye Whiskey isn’t just any rye. It packs a bold, full-bodied, taste and features a balance of sweet and spicy. It’s the perfect pour for Rebels on its own, but it also serves as an ideal base for various rye-centric cocktails.
Cocktail #1 – Old Rebel
Our kicked-up version of a classic Old Pal lets the flavors in Rebel 100 Straight Rye Whiskey shine. You can think of this cocktail as a (seriously) rebellious Negroni that swaps out the gin for rye and sweet vermouth for dry.
1 ounce Rebel 100 Straight Rye Whiskey
1 ounce Campari
1 ounce dry vermouth
Lemon twist for garnish
Combine the ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. Stir, then strain into a rocks glass and add ice. Run the lemon twist peel-side-down along the rim of the glass, then express it over top of the beverage by quickly squeezing out the citrus oils. Garnish with the lemon twist.
Rule Breaker Manhattan
Even if you’re familiar with Manhattans, you might not have had a Manhattan like this one before. Our rebellious take on a Black Manhattan adds an Italian amaro called Averna to the mix to make this cocktail anything but ordinary.
2 ounces Rebel 100 Straight Rye Whiskey
1 ounce Averna Amaro
1 dash Angostura bitters
1 dash orange bitters
Maraschino cherry for garnish
Fill a martini glass with ice and water and set it aside to chill. As your glass chills, add the ingredients to a mixing glass with ice and stir. Dump the ice water from the glass, then strain the cocktail into the chilled glass. Garnish with a Maraschino cherry.
Bold Rye Buck
Trust us, when you use Rebel 100 Straight Rye Whiskey, a simple Buck is anything but boring. We recommend using a high-quality ginger beer with a spicy kick to really make this cocktail shine.
1.5 ounces Rebel 100 Straight Rye Whiskey
3 ounces ginger beer
½ ounce fresh lime juice
Dashes Angostura bitters
Lime wedge for garnish
Combine all the ingredients in a highball glass over ice. Stir together and garnish with a lime wedge.
Always Rebel Against Boring Cocktails
One thing is for sure — any time you make a cocktail with Rebel 100 Straight Rye Whiskey, you’re in for a delicious and rebellious treat. The recipes above are just the beginning. You can use Rebel in any cocktail with rye as the base, and you can even experiment with using it in recipes that call for other types of whiskey when you’re feeling bold.
